A wealthy suburb of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan area, Plano, Texas is home to several corporate headquarters, such as Cinemark Theaters, J.C. Penny, and Dr. Pepper Snapple Group. In 2010, Forbes Magazine named Plano the safest city to live in with a population over 250,000.
Plano has an outstanding school system with a unique set-up for its high schools: 9th and 10th graders attend a “high school,” and then switch to a “senior high” for 11th and 12th grades. Three high schools in the Plano Independent School District ranked in Newsweek’s 2012 list of top national high schools. Plano shares its good fortune; in adherence to the “Robin Hood” law of Texas, Plano has given 1.2 billion dollars in property tax revenue to less affluent school districts.
Annual attractions include the Plano Balloon Festival and Plano International Festival.
