Gwinnett County and the Atlanta’s northeast suburbs are home to many charming towns, including Norcross and Berkeley Lake. Norcross’ downtown still features many of its original brick buildings, some of which date back to the 1890s. Restored to house modern business and meet today’s needs, these buildings ground the city to its past. Outside of the town center, a sense of history persists, with many Victorian homes and Craftsman cottages lining Norcross’ quiet streets.
The Betty Maudlin Park, situated in Norcross, features the towering “American Elm,” one of the largest and oldest elms in the country. The town as a whole features so many ancient and noteworthy trees that a historic tree walking tour guides visitors and residents to the most noteworthy. All and all, Norcross will appeal to individuals who value family, tradition, community, and diversity.
Berkeley Lake, built around the 77-acre namesake body of water, is a thriving and affluent community set amongst bird and wildlife sanctuaries. The town is best known for large estates and its commitment to nature preservation: it has been named “Tree City USA” eight years in a row. While new developments continue to pop up, Berkeley Lake has adopted ordinances to protect the town’s existing character and tranquility.
